Organizer: WU Wien, in cooperation with asylkoordination österreich
29 April 2024, Vienna
On 29 April 2024, the Vienna University of Economics and Business in cooperation with asylkoordination Österreich will hold an event to mark the twentieth anniversary of the system of basic care for refugees in Austria.
Basic care includes temporary accommodation, care and advice for people in need of help and protection in the context of flight and displacement. A much-discussed topic with regard to the integration of people seeking protection is access to the labour market. The EU Reception Conditions Directive promotes the economic independence of applicants and stipulates that EU member states must ensure effective access to the labour market no later than nine months after the application has been submitted. However, the implementation and design of these requirements are the responsibility of the individual EU member states. How is access to the labour market regulated in Austria, and how does this affect the labour market integration of asylum seekers?
The EMN study “Access to the Labour Market and Labour Market Integration of Asylum-seekers in Austria” deals with these questions in detail and will be presented as a lecture at the event “20 years of basic care for refugees”. The study can be downloaded from the Studies section. Further information on the event can be found here.
The PowerPoint (PP) presentation of the Study “Access to the Labour Market and Labour Market Integration of Asylum-seekers in Austria” presented at the event can be found here.
