Organizer: Vienna International Center (VIC)
24 May 2024
On May 24, 2024, the Long Night of Research (LNF), a night dedicated to the world of science and research, took place across Austria.
The Policy Research and Migration Law Unit of IOM – Austria was represented at the LNF at Vienna’s International Centre, which this year counted a record number of 2381 visitors. Together with IOM colleagues from the Vienna Regional Office and a colleague from IOM Headquarters in Geneva, the EMN Austria team presented facts and figures on migration to a large audience in an interactive way, making migration figures through a quiz tangible. The audience also had the opportunity to get to know the new 2024 World Migration Report and to learn more about the journey of Ukrainian refugees in Europe and migrants along the Mediterranean routes using IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix. The Austrian team was, moreover, available to answer questions about labour market integration of refugees based on the recently published EMN-OECD Informs on the labour market integration of beneficiaries of temporary protection from Ukraine and the EMN study on the labour market access of asylum seekers in Austria; two research products that IOM Austria has authored/led in its role as National Contact Point in the European Migration Network (EMN). For the EMN Austria team, the night was a complete success, characterized by many interested visitors, lively discussions on migration, and the opportunity to make the EMN publications visible to a broad public.
