The annual event “Arbeit & Integration”, hosted by the Chamber of Labour Lower Austria, took place on 24 June 2025 in St. Pölten. The focus was on the topic “20 Jahre Fremdenrechtspaket im Spiegel des Arbeitsmarkts“.
The event explored how the legal framework for people with a migration background has changed since the introduction of the Aliens Law Package. It also examined the impact of these developments on their participation in the labour market and on workplace practices.
As the National Contact Point in the European Migration Network (EMN), IOM Austria contributed to the event with a presentation titled “Arbeitsmigration in Zeiten des Arbeitskräftemangels in Österreich – Entwicklungen, Herausforderungen und Perspektiven“. The input outlined the legal and political developments in the field of labour migration in Austria and the measures taken to address labour shortages through migration. It also highlighted both existing challenges and best practices that have emerged in implementation.
The contribution was based on the recently published study “Labour Migration in Times of Labour Shortages in Austria” by the National Contact Point Austria in the European Migration Network.
