One of the key tasks of EMN Austria is to provide information on current developments in the fields of migration and asylum in Austria. It is often challenging to maintain an overview of the multitude of measures put in place and to accurately identify the factors influencing them. Most recently, the spread of COVID-19 has had a massive impact on migration and asylum in Austria. The European Commission’s proposal for a new migration and asylum package will also have a lasting impact on future migration policy.
Based on the recently published EMN Annual Policy Report 2019 and brief analyses by migration experts, we discussed the most relevant developments in the fields of migration and asylum since 2019 during the event. Among other things, we examined the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on labour migration and asylum in Austria. We also provided an outlook on the upcoming agenda for 2020/2021.
