The current migration flows to Europe pose significant challenges for all those involved. Not least for the migrants themselves, who all too often put their lives and physical safety at risk. A nuanced understanding of migration destinations, route planning and the motivations influencing the migration process is essential in order to develop effective alternatives to support migrants. Against this backdrop, the Austrian National Contact Point within the EMN organized a conference attended by more than 50 (inter-)national experts from various specialist fields.
In the first part of the event, the data on migration flows to Europe was presented and various methods of data collection were discussed. This was followed by an interactive workshop in which different approaches to supporting migrants in their regions of origin were examined and further developed. Based on keynote presentations, strategies were discussed across six thematic areas.
