Integration of applicants for international protection in the labour market
Labour market participation is a cornerstone of successful integration for applicants for international protection, supporting economic independence, social inclusion and long-term settlement. Ensuring fair and timely access to employment is vital for both individuals and host societies.
The publication reviews national regulations on employment access, waiting periods, support systems and qualification recognition across EMN Member Countries between 2017 and 2022. It highlights barriers such as language acquisition, administrative hurdles and skills mismatch, alongside promising approaches that facilitate earlier entry into the labour market. The analysis aims to support evidence-informed policy development in Austria and across the EU.
