Trafficked Third-Country Nationals: Detection, Identification and Protection in Austria
Trafficking in human beings is a serious human rights violation that can take various forms, such as sexual exploitation, forced labour, slavery and servitude-related practices, as well as the removal of organs, all of which constitute a grave violation of the victim’s fundamental rights. This study deals with the phenomenon of human trafficking of third-country nationals in Austria. In Austria, the fight against human trafficking is a domestic as well as foreign policy priority of the federal government. The report therefore examines Austrian measures to help detect trafficking situations and protect trafficked persons. In addition, the report provides a statistical overview and also addresses challenges and best practices.
