Since the start of Russia’s war of aggression in February 2022, more than 7 million displaced persons from Ukraine have been recorded in Europe, including around 80,000 in Austria. It is difficult to estimate how many more displaced persons from Ukraine will seek protection in Austria, how long those already residing here will stay, or whether a return in the near future will even be possible. The need for integration and the demands placed on state institutions and civil society organizations are enormous.
To accommodate displaced persons from Ukraine, it is essential to facilitate effective and efficient integration as quickly as possible. To this end, there is an urgent need to pool the available experience and data. Against this backdrop, EMN Austria invited experts from various relevant disciplines to a joint discussion. The aim of the event was to provide insights and stimulate discussion on the targeted development and further enhancement of integration measures for displaced persons from Ukraine in Austria. Overall, the event also highlighted the complexity of the issue and the importance of academic exchange and evidence-based policymaking.
